Fleece is an incredibly soft and warm fabric. It’s a plush fabric that is great as extra insulation and keeps you warm when it’s used as sweatshirts, jackets, blankets, or Winter accessories like hats and gloves.
Traditional fleece comes from the wool of sheep, but today there is a fleece made the traditional way, but also synthetically, still giving the same fleece feeling and insulating properties without the use of animal products.
When shopping for fleece, you are going to be bombarded with a plethora of choices. Since fleece is so incredibly popular, fabric stores have a wide variety of fleece to choose from.
The three main types of fleece are:

This fabric from Newcastle Fabric is by far one of our favorite fleece fabrics out there. It’s made from 100% polyester and it’s extremely durable. You’ll have no problem washing and drying this fabric and it will still remain soft and warm over time.
It’s an extremely easy fabric to work with, comes in a variety of different colors and is sold by the yard or cut to order. If you’re looking for a good quality fleece that holds up really well over time, this is a great option.
FWD has a lot of great fabrics and this Anti-Pill Solid Fleece is no exception. It’s made of 100% polyester and our favorite color is this beautiful Natural color which works as a neutral and great for a variety of different sewing projects.
You can make just about anything from this fleece including a cozy blanket, hat and gloves, or with the combination of a knit fabric, make a cozy T-Shirt! One of the best things about this fabric is that it doesn’t pill, especially after washing!
Another anti-pill fabric, this solid fleece fabric is made up of 100% polyester and is sold by the yard or cut to order. It’s 60” wide and incredibly easy to care for. It’s a great, affordable price, especially for an anti-pill fabric and with the color options, like our personal favorite the vibrant red, it will add a nice cozy touch to any blanket, scarf, or PJ set!
This Barcelonetta fleece is sold in 2-yard increments and is incredibly soft. It’s perfect for anything from making a poncho, blanket, pillow cover, PJ pants, to an eye mask! Whatever you decide to make with it, it will definitely be extra soft and cozy!
This fabric is easy to care for and doesn’t pill, which is always a plus! It comes in a variety of different colors and patterns as well.
