When it comes to setting up you’re sewing room, there are a few staple pieces that you need before you get started, a sewing desk, and a sewing chair.
Not every ordinary desk and chair will work best in your sewing room, which is why we’ve listed our favorite sewing room furniture pieces down below!
Best Sewing Chairs
Nearly just as important as having a good sewing machine, having a proper workspace will help you sew with precision and accuracy. One of the key features of creating the perfect sewing room is having a comfortable, durable sewing chair.
Although getting a proper sewing chair is not completely necessary, I do personally think it makes the world of difference.
Below, we’ve selected the best sewing chairs.
Serta Back in Motion Wellness Chair
Serta is an extremely popular brand when it comes to comfortable furniture. This chair uses Active Seating Technology to provide support while you sit and with attached wheels, you can move around easily.
With sewing, you will be sitting for a while. This chair specifically supports your back with the Back In Motion Lumbar Support system. There’s also an extra layer of padded cushion to support you back. Needless to say, your back is fully supported when sitting in this chair.
The Serta Back in Motion chair also features a padded armrest and a pillow for a comfortable experience. It’s adjustable so you can adjust it to the correct height for your sewing desk and is made with eco-friendly leather.
Office Star Mesh Back & Seat Chair
Although this chair is known more as a traditional office chair, it’s also ideal for sewing because of the lumbar support it provides. If you are sewing for long periods at a time, especially in warmer climates, the breathable mesh on the back of the chair and seat cushion will ensure you have even air circulation the whole time.
There’s a lever under the seat to adjust the height and also featured padded armrests for comfort as well. It’s not as plush as the chair above, but if you’re looking for something a little more structured, this chair may be a great option for you.
Modway Jive Ribbed Executive Office Chair
A little bit of a different style of the last two, this office chair gives a more stylish vibe to your space, while still providing that same level of comfort you’re looking for in a sewing chair. This high back vinyl chair has a ribbed padded seat and chair back that provides almost a massage-like experience sitting down.
Just like the other chairs, it’s completely adjustable to comfortably fit around your sewing desk.
Klasika Ergonomic Office Chair
This chair has a unique design with a double curve layer on the back of the chair for extra support and comfort. This curve design reduces pressure and pain to your back and protects your body overall. It is fully adjustable and has 360° smooth swivel technology to move around your space effortlessly. Lastly, it has breathable mesh throughout to keep you nice and cool and dry while working.
Nivigo Upholstered Home Office Chair
If you’re looking for a chair that doesn’t scream ‘office chair’ this Novigo is a great option. It’s a clean and modern take on the office chair while still delivering on durability, flexibility, and comfort.
It’s completely adjustable and has ample cushion and support that you’ll feel comfortable sitting for hours on end on it.
Best Sewing Desks
One of the essential parts of your sewing room is your workspace. Whether it’s a sewing desk or just a simple table, having the proper, stable place to rest your sewing machine is very important.
We personally like having a designated sewing desk over a plain table. Desks tend to have extra drawers and compartments that are ideal for storing items like your sewing accessories, patterns, and other sewing equipment closeby.
Below, we’ve put together a list of our favorite desks for sewing.
South Shore Crea Collection Craft Table
This table was specifically created as a craft table, which means every compartment, it’s shape, and cutouts are all designed with the crafter in mind. This sewing desk has a large surface for working so you can use it to sew, but also to cut fabrics as well.
It’s 53.5” x 23.5” x 30” in dimensions and has an abundance of storage in different drawers, shelves, racks, and out cuts. The desk includes five shelves that can be placed at whatever height required, so you can customize it to your specific equipment. There’s a combination of open shelving and storage and closed shelving located behind a slide-out door.
There’s a drawer right in the center which is great for holding items like your patterns but with included drawer dividers, keeping items like chalk, pencils, erasers organized is incredibly easy as well.
With its classic white color, it can fit in with just about any decor style.
Arrow Cabinet Sewnatra Sewing Cabinet
This desk is specifically designed as a sewing desk and is ideal for people who don’t have that much space for a large sewing desk. With dimensions of 68” x 19” x 30.5”, this desk can conveniently fit in just about any small space.
The sewing cabinet also has a lot of great features including caster wheels, two trays for storage, and two spindles behind the door for storing thread. It has shutter doors to close everything up when you’re not using it and has an airlift mechanism that raises and lowers the machine to working and storage height.
Arrow Gidget Adjustable Sewing Machine Craft Table
Another smaller table from Arrow, this simply designed craft table is all about convenience and not taking up a lot of space. It’s completely portable and is essentially just a foldable table. It’s 40” x 19” x 28” when setting up.
With no drawers and not a lot of excess room, this table is ideal for people that are restricted with space. That being said, it is still better than just a regular table as it has additional features like a wind up handle to raise and lower your sewing machine to your comfortable working level. It also allows you to securely lock your machine in place with Velcro straps and has wheels for easy movability.
Sauder Sewing Craft Cart
This craft cart is in a beautiful, Cinnamon Cherry finish which looks very rich and stylish in any space. It’s 40.1” x 19.4” x 28.5” in dimension and has a durable Melamine tabletop which is scratch, stain and heat resistant. The sewing machine can be stored underneath the surface which allows this craft cart to double as a desk or cutting station.
It has wheels for easy moveability and additional storage shelves and bins as well.
Giantex Folding Sewing Craft Table
If you’re looking for something small, but functional, this may be the craft table with you. This craft table is available in white, natural wood, and dark brown wood. It is on wheels so you can easily move it around, but is also lockable to ensure it stays in place when required to. It has additional storage and shelving making it easy to store your supplies and keep everything organized.
Better Homes & Gardens Modern Farmhouse Wood Sewing Table
If you’re looking for something with a little more style, this Modern Farmhouse Wooden Sewing Table is your answer. Similar to larger sewing tables, this table features storage shelves, cabinets, a large surface working area, and a shelf to store your sewing machine under the table.
Not only does this sewing desk look like a stunning piece of furniture, but it’s also extremely functional and will make your sewing experience a lot more stress-free.
Craft & Hobby Essentials Sewing Desk
If you’re looking for something pretty simple and straightforward, this craft table is a great option. It has a clean, simple design with some extra storage drawers and shelves. It has an adjustable platform that can be adjusted to your comfortable sewing height and has a decent size workspace area.
Sauder Harbor Sewing Armoire with Table
This piece of furniture is incredibly unique and great if your sewing room is used as a guest room or somewhere from time to time, you need to tuck everything away. This armoire folds out to an extremely functional sewing station with a large workspace, adjustable shelves, drawers, and organization.
When you’re done with everything, the table folds up and the doors shut and it looks like a traditional armoire. It not only looks great, hardly takes up space, but is very functional for sewing.
Bahom Adjustable Sewing Table
If you’re looking for a simple table for sewing, this is a great option. It has an adjustable platform for your sewing machine that allows you to adjust to six different positions. It’s also completely foldable so you can collapse it and move it out of the way when needed.
It has a shelf underneath which you can store bins of material and supplies, but it doesn’t have that much storage space.
When you’re not using it for sewing purposes, it can also be used as a computer desk.
